Promenade Des Anglais Early in the 19th century the English discovered that France's sheltered Mediterranean coast had mild winters, and soon they flocked here in large numbers. Afternoon strolls were fashionable, but the rocky, six-foot-wide path along the shore was hardly suitable for gentle walks. In 1820 the Reverend Lewis Way organized the construction of a sweeping promenade, planted with palm trees and decked with flowers. Not surprisingly, the locals soon called it the Promenade des Anglais (the Englishmen's Walk). Today the palms, flowers, strolling crowds and views remain unchanged - and its only a few minutes from the apartment! |

To the east, a beautiful perspective view towards the hills with their Tuscan charm. The huge fountain whose bronzes represent the planets of the solar system, is a favourite meeting place. |
